Permanent Wave or Perms

Today's perms or permanent waves give you everything from to loose and sexy waves to true curls. Hair perms also give you the true "wash and wear" that everyone seeks. A hair perm can free you from the hassles of setting and blow-drying. 


A bit of extra care is required with a perm. Keeping hair well-conditioned and moisturized is crucial, so if you live in a desert-like climate, anticipate extra 'spritzing' and moistening of hair to maintain curls. Also, plan on using a little product after washing and conditioning to enhance the curls and control any frizz.
It's important to consider your hair type and the condition of the hair in determining if you are a candidate for a perm. Damaged, over-processed and most color treated hair should usually not be permed. Perming hair that is not and in good condition is very damaging to the hair. In extreme cases, it could all need to be cut off.
The type of hair is another thing to consider. The best hair type for a perm is thick hair that has a bit of a natural wave. Very fine hair types or types must use hair perms with extreme care to prevent hair damage. You always want an experienced stylist, particularly if you are perming fine or thin hair, to ensure the best possible result.


Very types and coarse hair types are often resistant to hair perms. Coarse hair is often stubborn about taking a curl and holding the curl. This hair type will most likely to need frequent perming to maintain the hair's new texture and curl. Regardless of the hair type, you'll need to choose the right for hair perms and be gentle in styling the hair.
